Tacoma Crime Drops In First Half Of 2008

Posted on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 in Tacoma

The FBI has released crime statistics for the first half of 2008 for cities with more than 100,000 citizens. Tacoma saw overall drops in crime in the categories reported except for larceny-theft. Violent crime dropped 17% over the previous time period last year.  Bellevue saw a 40% increase in violent crime in the time period. Seattle failed to turn in statistics to the FBI so no data for them.. hmmm

So why the crime decrease in Tacoma? Nobody can give a factual answer as to why but you can give your opinion. Citizen involvement? Community Based Services? Gentrification? Just following the national trend? It is not the 50% drop the city was looking for but I will take 17%.
