Honda Commercial To Be Filmed In Downtown
This Sunday the Theater District and the St. Helens Neighborhood in Downtown Tacoma will see the lights, cameras & cars. Lodestar Films will be filming a Honda TV commercial Sunday, July 18th from 7am to 1pm. Streets affected will be South 7th Street, St. Helens Ave., Market Street & Opera Alley. No parking signs will be in place during those times and an off-duty Tacoma Police Officer will control traffic during filming.
Exterior shots will be filmed along St. Helen’s Ave. between S. 7th Street and Opera Alley, along S. 7th Street between St. Helen’s Ave & Broadway and along Opera Alley. A Picture car will drive down the streets while a camera car follows filming the action.
I don’t have info if this will be a regional or national TV commercial but it appears Lodestar Films, based in Hollywood, CA has filmed some national TV commercials for Honda & Acura.
What businesses will we see in the commercial? Puget Sound Pizza? The Mix? Over the Moon Cafe? We will have to wait and see.
Big Whisky Off “Whiskey Row”
The ever fabulous Steph DeRosa just gave us a sneak peak of the new Surreal Ultra Lounge going into the space Club Kokonut was to occupy, the former On The Rocks. Now just off Whiskey Row (Pac Ave. between 9th & 7th) CANS is transforming to Big Whisky Saloon. They are currently hiring for all positions including Country Rock DJs & Beer Tub Babes. They are planning their grand opening for April 30th. No liquor license changes have been posted which is needed with a change in name of the establishment or ownership changes. CANS was owned by the same folks that own Varsity Grill on Broadway.
It is starting to look like nightlife is taking another try in this neighborhood that at one time use to house Destiny’s, The Drake, Club Detour & 7 Cities.
Now we will have Surreal Ultra Lounge, The Matador, Paddy Coyne’s, Meconi’s, Big Whisky, Hell’s Kitchen & The Firwood (???).
You can apply at Big Whisky by submitting your resume to BigWhiskySaloon@gmail.com
New Restaurant in the St. Helens?
It looks like the St. Helens neighborhood in Downtown Tacoma may be seeing a new restaurant soon. A company called Jericho Development, LLC has applied for a beer/wine restaurant liquor license. The restaurants name is Minoela and will be located in the former One Heart Cafe location at the Merlino Arts Center. Not much more info on the place other than that.
I am also working on a few other neighborhood restaurant rumors, so stay tuned!
Metro City Homes Heading to the Auction?
The Dwelling Company’s Metro City Homes townhome project in the McCarver Neighborhood appears to be heading to the foreclosure auction. A Notice of Trustee’s Sale was filed recently for the 13 unsold townhomes and 17 vacant lots. 2300 Yakima Avenue Inc., the corporation the development is under, has sold 10 units at the project. All marketing on the property has been pulled and the homes are no longer listed with a real estate broker.
The public auction is scheduled for 10:00 am, June 26th outside the Pierce County Courthouse. The property will be sold the highest and best bidder. The developer has until June 15th to clear the default to avoid the auction sale.
Prium Restructures
A Deed of Trust recorded earlier this month with the Pierce County Auditor shows that Prium has restructured its financing for many of its holdings in Washington State including the Winthrop Hotel, Chelsea Heights, Hanna Heights, the Jay Heights parcel, and the Courtney Heights parcel in Downtown Tacoma. Hopefully this will clear the way (and title) for Chelsea Heights to be completed and rented out as apartments.
Prium also recently seperated its ownership (or atleast the ownerships name) in the Park Plaza North parking garage from the Bank of America Building a few blocks away. This may be in anticipation that the city will be purchasing the space in the garage for redevelopment of the site. The parking in the Park Plaza North garage was included in the transaction when Prium purchased the Bank of America Building in 2006. In September 2008 the City of Tacoma purchased the southern most office condo in the Park Plaza North garage for $1,250,000.
