Gyros Coming to the UWT

Posted on Saturday, March 20, 2010 in Business, Downtown, Restaurants, Tacoma

“Retail spaces are empty.”  “There are tons of open retail spaces along the UWT strip.”  “The retail space in Phillips Hall is available,  let’s fill that first then lets talk.”

Ok let’s talk!

University Gyro House is in the process of filling the vacant retail space in UWT’s Phillips Hall at 1914 Pacific Ave.  Along with gyros it appears you will also be able to have a nice cold beer, as Nizar LLC has applied for a beer/wine restaurant liquor license.

So will gyros be a good fit for the UWT campus? I think so!

Another Bail Bonds Joint in the Theater District

Posted on Monday, April 13, 2009 in Business, Downtown, Tacoma

Word on the street is another bail bonds storefront is coming to the Theater District. I am told Scott Free Bail Bonds is moving into the former Tacoma Events Commission location at 759 Market Street. If you recall this location is in between City Hall and Aladdin Bail Bonds. I am sure my many friends who live in the neighborhood will be thrilled!

The building is owned by City of Destiny LLC who’s registered members include Pat Nagel and Carole Holder of The Hub, Harmon Brewery, and Sound & Shore Properties fame.

Former Bakery Building To Be Demolished

Posted on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Business, New Development, Tacoma

The new owners of the Hostess Bakery building at South 7th Street and Sprague Ave. have some plans for the site and it does not include the current, now vacant building. WB Management bought the 59 year old building in December of 2007 for $850,000. They have submitted and application to rezone the property from its currently R4 multifamily zoning to C2 commercial zoning. The plans call for demolition of the bakery building and 2 story mixed-use building with retail and office space to be built in its place. The building will be surrounded by surface parking for 47 vehicles.

A public hearing for the rezone will be held May 29, 2009 at 9:30 am in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

The full rezone packet can be viewed HERE

E.E. Robbins Coming to Tacoma

Posted on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in Business, Tacoma, Tacoma Mall

E.E. Robbins The Enagament Ring Store  is coming to Tacoma.  They will be located in the former Quality Sewing & Vacuum store in Metro Plaza (across South 37th Street from Costco). They will be relocating their Southcenter store in Tukwila, WA  to Tacoma due to traffic congestion/problems around the Southcenter store.  They expect to be open in early February 2009.

I am told by the man himself Emerson Robbins (yes he sounds the same on the phone as in the commercials)  that E.E. Robbins is a local family owned business. They don’t do the sales scheme like other jewelry stores, you know the 40% off 3 days a week, 25% off 3 days a week, and regular price one day a week. Every manager of the store becomes a partner in ownership. Two of the managers are buyers for the company and every year they go overseas to hand pick their diamonds.

E. E. Robbins also has store in Belltown and Bellevue.

Tacoma to get an Apple Store

Posted on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in Business, Tacoma

It appears that a new Apple Retail Store is opening up in the Tacoma Mall. Today I found this listing on Craigslist.org : Apple Retail – Specialist – Tacoma, WA (Tacoma Mall)

I always thought it was funny that since I have a few Apple adds on my real estate website, my page comes up up in the first few web results on google for “tacoma apple stores”, “tacoma washington apple stores” etc. I usually get a few hits from those keywords every month.

Now I am guessing eventually the search results will lean more towards the new store.

Rocky & Coco’s Closed

Posted on Monday, November 24, 2008 in Business, Downtown, Tacoma

The Downtown Tacoma men’s and women’s clothing boutique, Rocky & Coco’s, has closed its doors. The retail boutique sold designer clothing items similar to what Nordstrom carries.  I am told by friends that the discounts were very generous the closing weekends with many items 75% off.  Another hit for retail in Downtown Tacoma. Are there any places left to buy new men’s clothing?
